What's in a calendar? Over on Facebook (that evil platform) people are saying there is only one day left in this year and where has the time gone. It hasn't gone anywhere. It just goes on and on, linearly weather we measure it or not.
Which brings me to this reflection. Tomorrow is the last day of 2016, but only because someone created a calendar that says so. Throughout history many people have created many different calendars with many different new year dates. Even today the Chinese New Year won't happen for a few weeks yet. And for the pagans, it already happened on the winter solstice.
My point is that a calendar has meaning only for those adhering to it. Your life on the other hand has meaning to you and can be measured in segments that are far more accurate than some arbitrary number. Which is kind of how our ancestors did things. Time was measured around events such as before/after I got married, had a child, had my 5th child, mom died, moved to a new place, started/finished school and so on. These things and many like them mark the chapters of our lives far more than a calendar. Think about it.
